ABSTRACT

Manipulation is a technique to be used directing society towards a particular thing and behaviour. This is a very common implication particularly in daily newspapers, daily speech, and also many kinds of literary works; this is therefore available within the short texts. This technique has been used as a tool by short story and reading storywriters in order to convey their ideological opinion to criticise society’s behaviour and decision makers’ attitude, and also to leave impact on readers. This study focused on a story entitled “Lesebuchgeschichten” written by Wolfgang Borchert who is a German author, and attempted to develop a classroom implementation draft based on evaluation of linguistic manipulation in the stories according to students’ opinions.
