Abstract

According to topography, climate, flora, water resources and economic activity temporary or seasonal rural settlements are differentiating. In general these rural settlements are simple, very small ones that have various names as a local. On forest areas of Biga peninsula, trees are cut under the control of authorities to order to rarefy and reanimate the forest. Villages in this area especially those that have not enough land to agriculture and that lie between agriculture area and forest, have forestery activity and build up the temporary rural settlement. The economic activity is made as a seasonal and is supplied additional income for villager. The topic of this research is shanty or hovel of seasonal forest workers, because forestery is important economic activity for village in hillside of Biga peninsula and near area. These houses like hovels are investigated function and properties. They form current model for tents which has been used for long time in the history. Other name of these settlements is turluk that made of different material. Geographical distribution and properties of these hovels are determined by means of conversation with forest workers and excursions and questionnaire.
