ABSTRACT
This study examines the life of Johanna Magdalena Beyer, one of the important female composers of her time, and her composition, 'Movement for Double Bass and Piano'. The aim of the study is to gain in-depth knowledge about the subject through a descriptive approach, by conducting a structural and melodic analysis of J. M. Beyer's 'Movement for Double Bass and Piano' and to provide a better interpretation of the work's unique structural features by explaining them through J. M. Beyer's compositional style. In this context, J. M. Beyer's life was researched, and an analysis of 'Movement for Double Bass and Piano' was conducted, with technical difficulties being scrutinized. Accordingly, the qualitative research method of document and content analysis was preferred. In this context, the literature was reviewed, and the score of the composition was used as a document, and the analyses were conducted based on these documents. J. M. Beyer was a member of the group of modernist composers active in New York in the 1930s. A pioneer in her own right, Beyer was one of the first composers to write for percussion ensembles and experiment with electronic music. Composed in the mid-1930s, 'Movement for Double Bass and Piano' exhibits an experimentalism and originality that sets it apart from other musical trends of the time. J. M. Beyer has created her own musical language in 'Movement for Double Bass and Piano' through the use of atonality, rhythmic complexity, and instrumental techniques. J. M. Beyer's 'Movement for Double Bass and Piano' is an important work by one of the leading female composers of the 20th century. J. M. Beyer has made a significant contribution to the experimental music concept of her time.
