Abstract

The entity formed by a nation or nations based on territorial unity is called a “state”. Statesman is the person who is foresighted modern, intelligent, honest, resolute, strong, patriotic. He should also be equipped with national culture and knowledge of history and historical consciousness. Atatürk, who had all those qualities made many fundamental and radical reforms in every field so that Turkish nation could rise to the level of modern states. His innovations to teach Turkish language, history and culture and to develop national consciousness among Turkish youth form the main core of those reforms. The educational and cultural policy he pursued gave the idea of non-dividable anity of Turkish history to young generations. He also paved the road to its deserved place in the modern world for Turkish nation. Therefore it is a duty for us to follow the path that Atatürk, the unmatched statesman, opened
