Abstract

İsmet İnönü visited many provinces during his prime ministry. Sometimes, during or after such visits, reports on the state of the province visited were presented to the prime minister. Prime Minister İsmet İnönü visited Edirne province on 8 and 9 December 1934. In this visit, a report containing information about the sociocultural, education, health, public order and economic situation of Edirne as of 1934 was prepared. This report also contains information on the civil structure of the province, local administrations and their activities, the status of immigrants and the work done and planned to be done in the field of public works. In light of that report that is filed in the Republican Archive of the Turkish Directorate of State Archives, the present study tried to describe the status of Edirne as of 1934. While analysing these data, they were compared with the official publications and various copyrighted works and research works of the time. The study also examined İnönü's visit to Edirne through the press.
