Abstract
Choosing the profession of an individual in society is an important step and this step is especially worthy of notice. Conscious choosing the profession has significance for in terms of his life and future of the nation and society. When the member is happy at what s/he does and where s/he works, it makes his/ her productivity and performance of his or her work better, which means the society along with the environment is happy as well. The aim of this study is to investigate the reasons of choosing of this profession of those students who studied at Computer and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) department. The study group is composed of the 178 students who are studying in CEIT the spring term of 2013-2014 academic year at Trakya University Faculty of Education. In this research, the survey which consists of thirty items included reasons of choosing their departments, was used as a data collection tool. The descriptive statistics were used to analyse the data. Also in this research, semi-structured interviews were made to support quantitative data and qualitative data were analyzed by descriptive analysis approach. According to the findings, the students are not affected by their families, friends and environments while choosing this department. This research shows us that students like teaching profession but they choose the department because of college entrance points and they would prefer the other teaching departments by way of the economic reasons or they would want other jobs especially in department of health sector instead of CEIT.
