ABSTRACT

In this study we analyzed the Proverbs, Idioms, local Terms, and Slang Expressions in Safahat (Phases) which is a 7-chapter poetry book by Mehmet Akif Ersoy, one of the most important poets in Turkish Literature. And we gathered those proverbs, idioms, local terms, and slang expressions in a writing titled Mehmet Akif Ersoy’un Şiirlerinde Halk Ağzı (Folk Dialect in Mehmet Akif Ersoy’s Poems). At the beginning of our study we presented the need to analyze rich Turkish Folk Dialect; and stated that Mehmet Akif Ersoy had noticed this need and conveyed his feeling using folk dialect by discovering their spirit. In the following parts we talked about Mehmet Akif’s literary personality and the conditions which Safahat (Phases) was created; and we alphabetically listed the words we examined with separate sample verses.
