Abstract

In Baroque Period, with developments in the flute, composers have begun to use this instrument as a solo instrument and composing many sonata and concer-tos for flute. Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736) one of the most talented musicians of the Baroque Period, has composed very significant works (pieces) into his very short life for 26 years. Before his death, Pergolesi had an important reputation in his own country, Italy. After his death, his works were performed in many concert halls mainly Paris and Europe. There are two flute concertos in the G Major and D Major under the name of Per-golesi in flute literature. Pergolesi’s G Major flute concerto is often take part in flute train-ing programs and concerts programs. In this study, it is briefly mentioned about the life of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and the G Major flute concerto. This study will contribute to Turkish literature because of the limited resources available in Turkish about Pergolesi and his G Major flute concerto.
