Abstract
Social work in the military refers to social work practices aimed at solving the problems of soldiers and their families with special circumstances and ensuring their well-being. This paper examines the history, development and the functions of the military social work which is a significant practice area of the social work profession that had not drawn enough attention in our country until today. Additionally, information about military social work education, ethical discussions on the field of practice and the current situation in our country is given. Scientific studies and practice in United State of America where the military social work has emerged and developed the most are examined and the benefits are presented. In this context, the necessity of the practice in this area and actualization in our country are emphasized. Therefore, it is aimed to provide a scientific basis to reveal an institutional military social work structure in both practice and academic spheres.
