ABSTRACT
This article explores the artistic significance of David Hockney's works produced in a time span of 50 years in terms of technique, theme and originality/authenticity. As it is widely known, Hockney is considered as one of the prominent figures in 1960's Pop Art movement. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1962, receiving the Gold Medal, he goes to Los Angeles and following this first visit, he continuously travels back and forth between this city and London. His Beverly Hills Housewife, dated 1966 is the first of his works which brings him visibility in the international art market. The painting that increases his popularity and draws the attention of the art world to his works is his A Bigger Splash, dated 1967. The range of his oeuvre comprising a variety of styles and bearing the influence of different art movements and tecniques qualifies almost as a form of autobiography.
