Abstract
This study, which was made under the title of string instruments performance evaluation scale: translating into Turkish, was designed to be used in all string instruments for the purpose of measuring and evaluating stage performances such as exams, concerts and competitions. Importance of measurement and evaluation of performance outcomes in edu-cation; to evaluate the outputs of students who are trained by trainers from different schools/training methods and to prevent loss of points in grading. The rationale and explana-tions of the items of the scale are also valuable because they include voice/interpretation covering different schools. In this study, developed by Zdzinski and Barnes; it was based on the work that was created by adapting the performance evaluation criteria of Clarinet Perfor-mance Rating Scale, developed by Abeles (1973) and Tuba-Euphonium Performance Rating Scale developed by Bergee (1987). Interpretation/musical effect, articulation/tone, intona-tion, rhythm/tempo and vibrato, which consist of the main headings and total of twenty-eight subtitles and string instruments formed the performance measurement and evaluation criteria. In the study, it was aimed to adapt the 'Development and Verification of a String Performance Rating Scale' to Turkish by Zdzinski and Barnes (2002). Although it is known that there are technical and musical necessities for proper/competent performance in string instrument ed-ucation, it is seen that the performance evaluations should be performed in a very detailed and meticulous manner. However, since the stringed instruments given in the art institutions such as the State Conservatories, Faculties of Fine Arts, Faculties of Art and Design, Facul-ties of Education included different schools/educational approaches, the objective perspec-tive of performance evaluation criteria could not be accredited and left the evaluation of the performance representative of the education process open to comment. Although it is fore-seen that the sub-items can be changed in accordance with the internal dynamics of each institution and without impairment the overall structure of the form, except for the main titles in the performance evaluation scale, the institutions that provide education in different disci-plines (Turkish Folk Music, Turkish Art Music, Authentic/Ethnic Music) it is thought that may create.
