Abstract

During the recent years, logistics has been accepted as a discipline in Turkey and the rest of the World. Like other disciplines, logistics has problems about terminology during its development. A terminological unity is also needed for transportation which is a large part of logistics applications and logistics education. International carriage of goods is con-ducted under different transportation modes and international regulations. Even though the expressions in these regulations are similar, they use different expressions for basic terms. In national regulations, carelessness in both translation and preparation of the regulations increased the difference in expressions. Differences in applications during practice further increases the confusion in expressions. In this study, the expressions for five terms have been investigated and the suggestions for these terms are proposed. The terms investigated are; the parties to the contract of carriage, beneficiary of the contract of carriage, carried physical object and consignment note.
