Abstract

In his memoir Magellan, Stefan Zweig, while explaining the reasons for writing a book, states that "sometimes curiosity drives one to write". In Türkiye, too, there are many works on youth that are caused by academic curiosity. Therefore, youth in Türkiye has been analyzed by many disciplines in terms of literature. The diversity of literature ranges from psychology to sociology, biology to political science. What is striking in almost all of the works is that youth is accepted as a given concept. In this case, there is almost no conceptual discussion of youth in the books analyzed. The common feature of the literature in studies that can be evaluated within political science is the construction of youth as a subject. When the youth literature is evaluated in terms of the subject dimension, it reveals different construction data between 1930-1960, 1960-1980 and 1980-2010. In this study, we have tried to analyze the discourse on construction developed by books with youth as the subject. However, this study analyzes publications in which construction as a subject can be traced, while excluding studies outside the field, such as medicine or biology. When it comes to youth as a subject, the concept is evaluated not a priori but on the axis of subject-power relations. In this way, the process of defining youth as a subject on the axis of power was evaluated and expectations were tried to be revealed.
