ABSTRACT

Edirne, by reason of the geographic position, has demonstrated a fast development, after the Ottoman conquest. The Ottoman administrators have been of help to the economical development of the city, by means of the commercial buildings, such as caravansaries, khans, bedestens, bazaars and shops, constructed by themselves. It is possible to consider the commercial importance of Edirne, as a commercial city, in studying in the customal records. Besides, the studies in the juridical records demonstrade the presence of the foreign merchants, come from the Western European countries and Russia, along with the Ottoman cities in Rumeli and Anatolia, in Edirne. And also, the presence of the foreigners. Come to work on the different sectors, appears in the juridical records. This study deals with the economical and commercial situation of Edirne in XVIII. century, according to the customal and juridical records and the other archival documents.
