ABSTRACT

This study began as a result of observing the fact that competence of Undergraduate German Language students whose native language is Turkish cannot be brought a desired level in using Prepositions of Place and Direction in German Language, although they receive preparatory class education in German Language for a year.

In this study, in order to investigate the causes of this problem, first, the Course Book Optimal A1, A2, and B1 used in German Language Preparatory Classes in 2007-2008 Academic Year was examined, and the issue what kind of methodological approach was made use of in teaching the subject of prepositions in this book was investigated thoroughly, and then, grammar books used in parallel to the course book were analyzed as well, and the question why the German Language Students who receive preparatory Class Education for one year have difficulty in using prepositions in German Language was tried to be answered.

As a conclusion, solutions for answers were tried to be developed for the issue of how the prepositions of place and direction can be taught in a more effective and permanent way.
