ABSTRACT
In this research, it was aimed to investigate the mediating role of self-understanding in the relationsip between emotion dysregulation and cognitive flexibility. In this descriptive and cross-sectional study, Cognitive Flexibility, Difficulty in Emotion Regulation and Self-Comprehension Scales were used. SPSS 22.0 and LISREL 8.80 programmes were used to evaluate the data collected through the online Google form. In the measurement model, the relationship between emotion regulation and cognitive flexibility was found as (r= -.81; p<.001), the relationship between self-understanding and cognitive flexibility was found as (r=.96; p<.001) and the relationship between emotion regulation and self-understanding was found as (r= -79; p<.001). When the structural model was analysed, while the relationship between emotion regulation difficulty and cognitive flexibility in the measurement model was (r=-.81; p<.001), this relationship was found as (β = -.16; p>.001) in the structural model. The results of the study reveal that self-comprehension has a strong mediating role in the relationship between emotion dysregulation and cognitive flexibility. The findings of this study constitute a starting point for understanding the role of self-compassion in the relationship between emotion dysregulation and cognitive flexibility.
