ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to examine the predictive effects of adolescent-parent career congruence and parental psychological control on the career development of gifted middle school students. For this purpose, 171 gifted middle school students receiving education at the Science and Art Center in Istanbul participated in the study. In the research, the "Personal Information Form" was used to collect participants' socio-demographic information, and the "Career Development Scale for Children," "Adolescent-Parent Career Congruence Scale," and "Psychological Control Scale" was used to obtain quantitative data. SPSS 26.00 data analysis software was used for statistical analysis in the research. In order to determine whether there were significant differences in terms of career development, adolescent-parent career congruence, and perceived maternal psychological control based on class level and parental vocational orientation, a Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was conducted. For the findings related to the prediction of career development by perceived psychological control and adolescent-parent career congruence, multiple regression analysis was performed. According to the analysis conducted, it has been found that adolescent-parent career congruence and perceived psychological control from parents account for 22% of the total variance in the career development of gifted students, and that adolescent-parent career congruence strongly influences career development. While the MANOVA results showed similarity in terms of adolescent-parent career congruence and career development level based on class level, the level of perceived psychological control showed significant differences. Regarding parental vocational orientation, significant differences were found in terms of career development, parental career congruence, and psychological control levels.
