ABSTRACT

In this research, it is intended to determine the problem solving abilities of pre-school teachers and to investigate if some variables cause significant difference in problem solving abilities of teachers. The research has been conducted on 122 teachers who are employed in pre-school education institutions located at Ankara. In order to collect information about teachers and the institutions that they are employed in “General Information Form”; in order to evaluate the problem solving abilities of teachers “Inventory of Problem Solving” which has been designed by Heppner and Petersen (1982) and whose validity and reliability were checked by Taylan (1990) were used.

At the end of the study, it has been determined that age is a determinative factor on problem solving abilities of teacher candidates; while their graduated department, the seniority, their type of the institution, the number of the children in the group and their ages do not have any significant impact on the level of problem solving abilities of teachers.
